Twinned from https://github.com/cfsh/ninefold/issues/180 by tools/beads/import_github.py's reconcile pass.
Idle-time proposal (flagged earlier on the instrument-switch work, filing properly now).
The INSTRUMENT chip row in the sound editor is at 7 chips (synth, drums, cable, gloam_pluck, grand_piano_-_intimate, midnight_pad, wrensfuzz) and grows with every sample pack dropped into games/tonapse/samples/instruments/. A flat row stops working somewhere around 8–10: chips shrink, names truncate, and controller navigation becomes a long left-right crawl.
Proposal: keep the row for the first N (fast path), and add a BROWSE… chip opening a controller-friendly popup — grid of instruments, d-pad navigation, X selects, Circle cancels, same focus-restore discipline as the chip row today (#103/#158 pattern). Category grouping (synth/drums/sampled) once the count justifies it.
Cheap to do now, annoying to retrofit after the library doubles. Say the word and it becomes a PR.
