When you have focus on a pattern in the song view, Triangle selects that pattern and jumps you into the notes editor (already X-ed in). Pressing Triangel again jumps you back into the song editor in the cell you were in.
This makes it easier to 'edit the pattern I want', in a sense the whole song view becomes a way to find patterns u want to edit.
In the UX, the sound and pattern buttons can be 'glued' to the notes editor - so it's much clearer that the notes being edited belong to that pattern.
Also, consider tweaking the visual styling so it's clearer that the pattern buttons belong to the given sound selection.
previously I said Triangle could play the pattern that's focussed in song editor, but I think this is a better way to use triangle since u can play with Triangle + Square now.
